There are 62 permanent staff members at Sunfield. They are divided between Admin, the 5 Houses, the Occupational Therapy Department, Kitchen, Medical, Estate and Outreach.

Our residents are well cared for by a dedicated and hard- working team of carers, supervised by committed Houseparents and their assistants. The Sunfield staff are led by the General Manager, Cliff Freeman.

At Sunfield Home Howick we are dedicated to providing our residents with the best care, stimulation and welfare that we can but this would be impossible without our inspiring volunteers and groups who help us with many activities and fundraisers.

We are fortunate to have a number of volunteer groups and individuals who help us daily with different activities.

FOSHIM (Friends of Sunfield Home Howick in the Midlands)

FOSHIM is a group of parents, family members, previous employees and community members who are passionate about the residents of Sunfield.

They assist at various fundraising events which we hold during the year. In addition, they also host functions other functions to raise funds for Sunfield e.g. their annual Golf Day.

Currently their main drive is to raise funds for the purchase of wheelchair-friendly Mini Bus to cater for our residents who have very restricted mobility.

Schools and other Groups

Sunfield is fortunate to receive help from a number of local schools and youth groups. In this way our residents get to interact with groups of young, compassionate individuals. This is a great experience for our residents and also for the volunteers themselves.

We are grateful for the regular support we receive from:  Michaelhouse, The Destiny Team from One Life Church Pietermaritzburg, Howick High school and Hilton College.

We can’t express our appreciation enough to these youngsters and their passion for our residents.

FOS ( Friends of Sunfield Durban )

The FOS group raise funds in the Durban and surrounding area including the upper Highway. They would welcome any parents, siblings, friends or volunteers to meet with them and are open to any new ideas to raise fun and funds.

As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on the generosity of others to maintain the Home in a way that continues to be a beacon of hope for parents and siblings of intellectually impaired adults.

Unfortunately, many of our residents outlive their primary care-givers and become dependent on the Home for a safe haven in which to live out their remaining days. Our reputation, and commitment to becoming a centre of excellence means, we are a reliable and trustworthy recipient of donations, social responsibility funds and sponsorship opportunities for individuals and companies.

Talk to us about any thoughts, ideas or plans you have for finding win/win solutions. We’d like to welcome you to the Sunfield Supporters’ family.
