Choosing the right long-term home is about ensuring safety, stability, and the wellbeing of every Resident already living at Sunfield, as well as those seeking admission. Our screening criteria help us determine whether we are able to meet a prospective Resident’s needs within our structured, supported community environment, while maintaining a harmonious and secure setting for all.
Please ensure your potential Resident has:
1. Reached a minimum of 18 years of age, and is fully continent.
2. Been professionally diagnosed with an intellectual impairment
NB: We do not cater for autism, bipolar, schizophrenia, dementia, psychosis, or those with physically violent behaviour.
3. A full vaccination history with supporting documentation
4. Reproductive prevention undertaken.
5. No history of uncontrollable, antisocial, or deviant behaviour, ie, they are capable of living alongside others and working harmoniously as part of a supervised unit.
These criteria allow us to responsibly assess whether Sunfield can provide a safe, supportive, and appropriate long-term home for your loved one. If you are unsure whether your potential Resident meets these requirements, we encourage you to contact our admissions team to discuss your individual circumstances and receive guidance before proceeding further.

Our fee structure is designed to be transparent and predictable, allowing Guardians to plan with confidence while ensuring that Sunfield can continue to provide consistent, high-quality care in a stable and supportive environment.
If you have any questions regarding fees, payment options, or how the SASSA Grant applies, our team is available to discuss your circumstances and provide clarity. We encourage open conversations to ensure there is a shared understanding before the admissions process moves forward.

Moving into a new home is a significant transition, and the probationary period allows both your loved one and the Sunfield team the time and space needed to ensure a comfortable, supported, and appropriate adjustment. This period is designed to prioritise the wellbeing of the Resident while carefully assessing whether Sunfield can meet their needs on a long-term basis.
At Sunfield we have a three (3) month probationary period to enable time for your Resident to settle in and become familiar with their new surroundings and make new friends.
During this time we assess a number of factors to ensure a good fit for both parties.
While not an exhaustive list, we aim to ascertain:
Our caring team will remain in contact with you to discuss the settling-in period, and at the end of the probationary period, one of four decisions will be made:
Throughout the probationary period, communication and transparency are key. Our team is committed to working closely with Guardians, sharing observations, addressing concerns early, and supporting informed decisions that are in the best interests of your loved one and the wider Sunfield community.
Sunfield Home is committed to providing stable, long-term care in a financially responsible and sustainable manner. As a non-profit organisation, the Home relies on a combination of government subsidies, donations and fundraising, and fees paid by parents and guardians to meet its operational and care-related costs. The Debtor’s Policy exists to ensure that this responsibility is managed fairly and transparently, in the best interests of all Residents and the wider Sunfield community.
The policy outlines how fees are raised and payable, the steps taken should accounts fall into arrears, and the processes followed to engage with parents or guardians where payment difficulties arise. Sunfield’s approach prioritises communication and reasonable engagement, with opportunities for discussion and payment arrangements wherever possible, while also recognising the Home’s obligation to recover outstanding fees to remain viable and equitable to all families.
For full details, including timelines, procedures, and the responsibilities of both the Home and parents or guardians, please download and review the Debtor’s Policy document below.
