As we move through another busy
and meaningful season at Sunfield, we
would like to share some of the
highlights, developments, and
achievements from the past few
months. It has been a period filled
with growth, exciting opportunities,
sporting success, and community
connection.

On Friday, 1 May 2026, the grounds of Sunfield Howick came alive as residents, families, supporters, local businesses and community members gathered for our much-anticipated Sunfield Country May Fair.

Despite a rainy start to the morning, the weather soon cleared to reveal beautiful blue skies — setting the scene for a truly memorable day filled with laughter, connection and community spirit.

Making the decision to explore residential care for your child or loved one is never simple.

It often comes after months — sometimes years — of searching, praying, researching, and wondering what the right next step might be. It can feel overwhelming. Emotional. Even frightening.

This year has certainly kicked off with energy and enthusiasm! We trust you all enjoyed a happy Christmas spent with your loved ones. The residents who remained at Sunfield Home were thoroughly treated and spoiled by our Chef and the dedicated staff on duty — ensuring the festive spirit was very much alive for all those who remained within the Home

As the end of the year draws to a close it’s a time to reflect on all the achievements and progress made during 2025, and to plan for 2026. With the rains arriving the gardens and grounds are looking beautiful and all the hard work over the winter months can now be seen.

At Sunfield Howick, caring for people and caring for the planet go hand in hand. Our newest recycling initiative is helping us do both — creating a more sustainable community while giving our Residents meaningful opportunities to contribute and grow.

The year has certainly flown by, and we have been kept busy ensuring that the home runs as smoothly as possible. With this having been my second year in the role I must say I have enjoyed it a lot more, and it’s certainly been full of significant projects and activities.

Members, families, and the Sunfield community, it is an honour to present my report as Chairman for the 2024/25 year. I would like to begin by providing an update on board matters and the ongoing efforts of our dedicated team.

Fragile X Syndrome is the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability. It affects how the brain develops, leading to challenges in learning, communication, and behaviour.

The Sunfield July Program began as a way to give our residents a well-deserved “holiday” — a chance to step away from their usual daily structure and enjoy something fun, different, and exciting.

Much like school holidays, this two-week break offers our residents a chance to rest, explore, and recharge — mentally, emotionally, and socially.

It is hard to believe we are almost halfway into the year. The May fair is behind us, and we look forward to the concert. The new workshops will hopefully be completed by the end of July, which will be fantastic. Our Residents can also look forward to the upcoming July programme being put together. Winter is definitely here.
