Nicky Coetzee, our sister, has been in the care of Sunfield Home for 40 years. She is a delightful sister who is always happy and cheerful.
My brother Chris and I live overseas. Chris in Chicago, and myself in Abu Dhabi. It brings us great comfort to know that she is well cared for in our absence.
If Nicky is unwell she is taken good care of and if necessary, kept in the clinic on-site or taken to medical practitioners in town. The Home also takes care of her overall health by ensuring she eats the right foods and gets exercise.
She loves the craftwork (especially knitting), sports days, fairs, outings and church on Sundays.
Nicky sees her cousin once a quarter and he and his wife, who live in Howick, take her out to the Spur (which she loves – hamburger and chips, and a coke😊) and to their home as well.
Chris visits once a year and takes Nicky out for a week. Chris also phones Nicky every Sunday like clockwork. Chris and I are able to Zoom with Nicky every second month, and the staff assist with technology to do that, for which we are very grateful.
I have my family in Cape Town and I fly Nicky to Cape Town 2 to 3 times per year, especially at Christmas and Easter. Sarah from Sisonke also helps with transport to and from Durban airport, which is a great help.
She has always been happy at Sunfield and enjoys the care of the house mother, the carers, the kitchen staff, the medical personnel, admin staff and the General Manager.
Even though the family lives in Cape Town we believe that Sunfield in Howick is the best place for her, as she has been so happy there.
